What is different about Pique's travel designers?
Pique Travel Design has been fortunate to attract some of the best minds in the industry. Our designers are curious, highly educated with college degrees (and some post-graduate) and, dare we say, fun to work with.
Our designers are paid on salary to eliminate any potential bias that commission structures could add to the equation. And each designer has traveled extensively in their areas of expertise (and beyond). You can rest assured we have a knack for finding the most remarkable things to do and places to see.
Is working with a designer more expensive?
Many travelers don't realize Pique's pricing for cruises and escorted group tours is the same as booking direct. In addition, we have special "Pique Perks" with many hotels and cruise lines that will add even more value to your trip. But the part our clients enjoy most is the time savings and peace of mind we can offer by helping them make smart decisions. There is a big sense of relief when Pique's clients don't have to spend hours sifting through all the online options.
When it comes to custom designed trips we can typically design a custom experience for a similar price as a group escorted tour (i.e. Tauck, A&K, National Geographic). This is a big upgrade since the trip is designed around your interests and you won't be traveling with a group. The actual price depends on a number of factors including seasonality, the type of hotels, tours, and mode of transportation. If you already have an itinerary in mind, we will be happy to review the details to see if we can maximize your value and experiences.
How much should I budget for a trip?
Our travel designers will help you select a budget range to fit your travel style. Pricing will vary based on time of year, availability and location. As a general rule of thumb, here are some "Starting At" prices:
Good: $1,750-3,499 per person, 7-day land package, excluding air
Better: $3,500-$6,999 per person, 7-day land package, excluding air
Best: $7,000+ per person, 7-day land package, excluding air
How long will it take to design a trip?
This will depend on the complexity of your trip. The benefit of using Pique's services is we have one of the best “Little Black Books” in the industry with partners in over 150 countries around the world. As you can imagine, time zones and cultural hurdles may come into play impacting the timeline. On average, our travel designers can usually have an initial proposal for your review 3-5 days after our initial consultation. If you have a pressing timeline please let us know and we'll do everything we can to help meet your needs.
Do you charge a planning fee?
Pique does not charge an upfront planning fee for our services. We work on a basis of good faith believing once we've engaged in planning a trip with you, you will book through us. We do charge a $250 deposit to be applied to the cost of your trip. In the event you should cancel your trip, this is a nonrefundable deposit that will be used to compensate for our time spent on your travels.
Once we select a budget range for your trip, we will manage our hours to design a great experience within this budget. On a rare occasion, some trips require more time than is covered in the budget. This is primarily due to multiple changes, complex itineraries, limited availability requiring more investigation, rush requests or a higher than average level of questions. We will notify you in advance if we feel we might exceed our time allotment. We can either wrap up the itinerary or continue working on trip adjustments using an hourly fee for service.
Can I get a price break down?
Pique's pricing is presented on a per person basis and not itemized by each individual detail. If you want to adjust the pricing we can make changes to your itinerary to meet your needs. Unfortunately, we can't offer a price breakdown. We have negotiated special rates that can't be released to the public. Our per person pricing model is based on an industry standard. It's the same approach used by cruise lines and group escorted tour companies such as A&K, Tauck and National Geographic.
I found it cheaper online?
While it is possible to search for hotels, tours, and flights online, it's very difficult to ensure a true apples-to-apples match. Our trips include pieces that can’t be priced out online such as the expertise of our guides, the quality of our properties, professional English speaking drivers and amenities unique to Pique. Also, there are many factors that can be inadvertently left out to make a trip look lower in price; government taxes, port taxes, resort fees, private versus group transfers etc… Simply put, the trip booked online is not the same trip as designed by Pique. If you feel the pricing doesn’t match your expectations, we will be happy to discuss ways to adjust your itinerary so it’s a better financial fit.
Warren Buffet once said, “Price is what you pay, value it what you get.” You can rest easy knowing Pique's pricing is sensible and you’ll receive tremendous value through our insider insights and attentive service.
