Jim and I recently took the kids to Arizona for a long weekend. Our mission? Do a little relaxing, reconnect as a family outside of our hectic day-to-day routines and see The Grand Canyon. Mission accomplished on all fronts.
We started our journey by flying into Phoenix. Plenty of direct flight options from all over the US, so a relatively easy flight. And the best part for us? We could fly out Wednesday night after school and get the physical traveling out of the way that evening. We woke up Thursday morning and were in our destination and ready to start our experiences.
We drove north to Sedona and checked in to Enchantment Resort. This Virtuoso property is set within the Red Rocks...surrounded by awe-inspiring vistas. We loved the property and our casita was perfect for our little family of four. Enchantment is a sister property to Mii Amo, which has been voted among the best spas in the US. A great environment for relaxing and reconnecting.
We spent one of our days at the Grand Canyon. It was a little more than two hours from Enchantment and the drive was beautiful – definitely part of the journey. Once at the Canyon, we spent several hours at the South Rim. Every lookout seemed better than the last with different vantage points, different lighting illuminating various rock layers of red hues. The depth of the Canyon is hard to even comprehend.
While we were walking along the rim, we keep agreeing on one thing: Some day we want to raft the Colorado River far below where we stood. Ironically a few days later I was with Pique clients who had done just that and raved about the experience.
The following days we spent hiking, doing a Pink Jeep Tour into the valleys, playing tennis, croquet and simply “being.” We loved the Sedona area. It’s a great place to reconnect with nature and all the beauty it offers.
